I was not dissapointed! The room has been painted inline with the Big Worle Colours, everything looked so fresh and new.
To celebrate our first Big Worle Partnership Meeting in our newly designed room Leslie (Big Local Rep) had even bought chocolate cake!
A huge thank you to all who helped during the makeover, a lot of hard work went into cleaning, selling furniture, clearing out items no longer needed and painting. But it was so worth the effort......photo to appear soon!
One big thing to tell you is that the Task Groups have now been changed to Action Groups.
The first meetings have now been held and here is a brief update from each Action Group:
This group have highlighted that there needs to be some communication notice boards in the area
Would you like to see some communication boards in the Big Worle Area? Where do you think that they should be?
Leave a comment below and let us know!
In addition they have identified creating publicity in a variety of different ways in order that everybody will have the chance to be involved and hear the latest news
This group looked at the outcomes from the community researcher project held earlier in the year
They have identified that the following areas for improvement need to be investigated as to how achievable they are as a priority:
Lighting in alleyways
Tackling drinking in the area
Encouraging the police to work with more residents and build rapport
Review CCTV in Big Worle Area
Implement a crossing in Wansborough Road
Training and Employment
This group are initially reviewing the following areas:
Volunteering pathway work
Management of "What's On" page on this website
Work closely with Voluntary Action North Somerset (VANS)
To identify local businesses who would be interested in working with Big Worle and partnering us
Children and Young People
This group have been visiting the local schools to create relationships and open the lines of communication and synergy. They intend to return back to the schools to update them and identify where they can work further. Such as...activities and resources for children after school
The plan is to get us to move!
They are looking at local maps of the Big Worle area to see where pathways can be improved.
There is a possibility of having a live open day where street games could be held and they are also in touch with the local gym
Age UK are talking to this group to identify areas where communication and activities could be improved for older people.
There is discussion taking place between Dave Hart who is a historian and has previously held "walking sessions" around Worle, giving people an insight in what Worle used to be like.
There are also discussions between this group and a couple of places local to the Big Worle area to arrange coffee mornings so watch this space!
Did you know that during a recent survey the pupils at Worle School put Environment at the top of their list?
The plan is to involve people of all ages to identify how we can support the environment.
Environment also encompasses how the area looks, we want Big Worle to be attractive and welcoming
How you can get involved
You can have your say!
Meetings are held once a month (see home page for date of next meeting) and there is always tea, coffee and biscuits. The people that presently attend are a mixed bunch of all ages. We would love to see you.
If you would like to be involved in an Action Group you are more than welcome - This is about residents of Big Worle improving the community for Big Worle
You can spend as little or as much time as you like being involved. There is never any pressure and we do like to have a laugh.
